New! SJA Hospitality MinistrySJA welcomes over 1000 parishioners and visitors every Sunday morning. You will work with or greeters and hospitality ministers to hand out bulletins, open doors, help people find seats, prepare and serve coffee, cookies, and juice. You will serve as a welcoming presence to our community!
First Sunday of the month, 8:00-11:00am New! Ecospirits PartnershipMany teens see their faith through creation. God is consistently present in the life and nature around us. Be a youth voice in Ecospirits, a SJA ministry striving to keep creation sacred. Collaborate to inspire, educate and act to create systemic change that will empower all to live in harmony with the Earth. Attend 3 Ecospirits meetings this year and work with a volunteer to bring a project you and your fellow Micah volunteers propose to fruition.
Dates Vary Based on your Scheduling with Lead Volunteer Calvary Church MealCalvary Church Meal is a program that works with SJA parishioners to prepare a meal for those in need. Volunteers are asked to purchase and prepare a meal for 12, with a designated menu. On Sunday, you bring the meal to Calvary Church, stay to heat the meal, help serve, and then clean up.
Third Sunday of the month, 1:15-3:30pm SJA NurseryThis provides care for children ranging from birth to age 4 while their parents attend liturgy. You will be asked to interact, comfort and attend to children in the room during mass. The nursery expects a time commitment of 1.5 hours, which includes 15 minutes before and after each mass. Besides Sunday liturgies, you are invited to provide care for special events throughout the year. Meet in the Parish Center lower level.
First or fourth Sunday of the month, 8:45-10:15am or 10:45-12:15pm Dragonfly ProjectThis is a non-profit that sends hopeful message packets to families who have recently had a family member die. Projects for this ministry include making packets (putting key chain, story and card in an envelope), making key chains, coloring dragonfly cards, signing the cards, and addressing envelopes. Meet in the SJA upper room.
First Sunday of the month, 11:00-12:00pm. Greater Minneapolis Crisis NurseryCook for Kids: The Crisis Nursery works in partnership with parents in crisis and the community to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect. Teams of 4-6 volunteers agree, in coordination with the lead volunteer, to plan a menu, purchase ingredients, cook, serve and eat the meal with the children and staff. They clean up after everyone is fed. Parents drive to the facility (2 blocks from SJA).
First Sunday of the month, 11:00-1:30pm St. Joan of Arc BaptismsBy volunteering with Micah Baptisms, you help to create a welcoming atmosphere for families of those receiving the sacrament of baptism. Help set up, serve, and provide hospitality for all families. You will learn about the sacrament of baptism and why it is an important tradition in our faith. Attendance at 1 baptism session highly encouraged (times vary). Location: SJA church
First Sunday of the month, 12:30PM-1:30PM Ronald McDonald HouseBy volunteering with Ronald McDonald House, you'll help with their Cooks for Kids meal program- creating a home away from home for families whose children have a life-threatening illness and need to stay near the hospital. Volunteers provide the food, prepare the meal and serve the meal with lots of smiles and humor for the families. You must be at least 14 years old to serve and be accompanied by one or both parents who will serve with you. Include the name of the adult(s) who will be accompanying you. Location: Ronald McDonald House – Meet at SJA and drive together.
Fourth Sunday of the month, 10am-3pm Mobile Loaves Twin CitiesPrepare, package and organize food for the Mobile Loaves Twin Cities truck to distribute. Volunteering includes sorting toiletries and socks, helping to clean the kitchen after food prep, restocking storage area, etc. You'll also help load the truck before departure time. Meet at Knox Presbyterian Church on 48th and Lyndale.
First Sunday of the month, 3:30-4:45pm, October 2018 – September 2019 Catholic Charities Branch IIIThis service provides meals and basic necessities for people experiencing homelessness and near-homeless individuals in the metro area. We serve breakfast on the first and third (two separate teams) Saturday of each month. We gather at 6:45am to prep and serve two seating’s, 7 and 7:30am. Parents may drop off and pick up, or more typically they stay and serve with the youth or provide back line support in the kitchen. We are usually done cleaning up by 8:15am.
First or Third Saturday of the month, 6:45-8:15am. Pre-K at SJAVolunteers will lead a Pre/K classroom which includes teaching a lesson (curriculum is provided). The commitment is 2 hours (8:40 - 10:40) or (10:40 - 12:40) 12 Sundays this faith formation year. Looking for volunteers who are comfortable with children ages 3-6, can engage with children, and would like leadership responsibility.
